What Is Manufacturing Activity?
Manufacturing activity as defined in the Industrial Coordination Act, 1975 means “ the making, altering, blending , ornamenting, finishing or otherwise treating or adapting any article or substance with a view to its use, sale, transport, delivery, or disposal and include the assembly of parts and ship repairing but shall not include any activity normally associated with retail or wholesale trade”.
Background
The Industrial Coordination Act, 1975, requires person (s) engaging in any manufacturing activity to obtain a license from the licensing officer in respect of manufacturing activity. The objective of the Act is basically to ensure orderly development and growth in the manufacturing sector. Only manufacturing companies with shareholders’ funds of RM2.5 million and above or engaging 75 or more full time employees need to apply for license under the ICA.
How To Set Up A Manufacturing Establishment In Sarawak
All the application for the establishment of industrial projects to be located in Sarawak shall obtain the Industrial Coordination Committee’s (ICC) approval (if the shareholders’ funds below RM2.5 million and or engaging less than 75 full time employees) / or support (if the shareholders’ funds of RM2.5 million and above or engaging 75 and full time employees).
